Multicath5 expert S is an antimicrobial XRO polyurethane central venous catheter introduced by Seldinger technique.

The ionic silver antimicrobial agent (Agion) is incorportated within the bulk polyurethane material to minimise the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection risks. Silver ions are released slowly to ensure efficacy during the dwell time of the catheter.

It consists of 5 lumens completely separated on the total length of the catheter. Each lumen leads, at the distal tip of the catheter, to a distinct hole. At the proximal end, the lumens of the catheter are connected to extension tubes of different lengths. QimoHarpoon is a device designed for the reconstitution and withdrawal of high-risk medications. With QimoHarpoon, it is possible to dissolve powdered drugs or lyophilisates and to repeatedly withdraw drugs with a syringe from the same vial/bottle.

QimoHarpoon is a needle-free device with a metallic tube (acting as air-intake device) connected to a balloon (50 cc volume). The function of the balloon is to prevent the emission of toxic vapour from the vial and to allow injection and drug aspiration while equalizing pressure in a closed system.

QimoHarpoon is made of:

– a harpoon-shaped spike which perforates the vial/bottle stopper and which cannot be removed from the vial. An opening is located on the harpoon which facilitates injection of the fluid for reconstitution and allows the drawing-up of the final reconstituted solution. Qimo Male is a multi-purpose, closed, needle-free, I.V. connection device which has been designed for the preparation and safe administration of hazardous drugs. Qimo Male has a very easily disinfectable membrane (disinfection must be carried out before and after use) which automatically closes when Qimo Female is disconnected.
Qimo Male is a safety adaptor, the proximal end of which must be connected onto the male Luer-lock end of a syringe, an extension tube or an infusion set. At the distal end, the Luer bayonet end can only be connected to devices which feature a Qimo Female end. Note: after the connection of Qimo Male onto a Luer-lock male hub, Qimo Male rotates and cannot be disconnected anymore.
Qimo Male can only be connected to the female Luer bayonet end of Qimo Female, by placing the lugs of Qimo Male into the notches of the bayonet ring of Qimo Female. During the connection, the internal metallic tube of Qimo Female opens both the membranes of Qimo Female and of Qimo Male and the two conduits fit in together. It is then possible to inject, infuse or withdraw samples of drugs. During the disconnection, the membranes automatically close, which ensures the sealing of both devices.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

QIMONO® is made of 2 components: • Qimo Male ♂, safety connector directly attached to the chemotherapy syringe • Qimo Female ♀, multipurpose connector, attached to the perfusion line of the electric syringe pump

Tightness indicators : • Radioactivity; quantitative technique, with 99mTechnetium (99mTc; E= 140KeV, T1/2 = 6h) ; Activity= 200 MBq, V = 5mL ; considered as 100%. • Azorubicine, qualitative technique, as coloured visual indicator.

The Tightness test has been performed from a standardized preparation: a 5mL syringe with 200MBq of 99mTc with a final volume of 5mL azorubicine. QIMONO® (♂and♀) has been connected to the syringe then the solution has been injected in an empty vial. The tightness properties of the connection has been tested by swabbing the external membranes of both Qimo♂ and Qimo♀.
